Get To Know Emily

For Emily Agate, wakesurfing started as a new experience and grew into a lifelong passion. More than a decade later, she has built a career around the sport, traveled the world competing and coaching, and found a way to share the same love of the water with her own children.

Her journey to wakesurfing, however, began far from the lake.

Growing up in England, Emily had little exposure to watersports. That changed when her family moved to Canada at 16 and settled near Lake Koocanusa. With the water just around the corner, her family embraced lake life, and Emily started wakeskating and wakeboarding before discovering wakesurfing at 21.

She was hooked immediately.

In 2012, Emily entered her first local wakesurf competition and earned a qualifying spot at the World Championships in Parker, Arizona, where she finished second. The result introduced her to competitive wakesurfing and set the stage for what would become a defining part of her life.

The following season, she competed on the Tigé Endless Wave Tour, where she experienced Tigé Boats firsthand and met the people behind the brand. In March 2014, an unexpected phone call invited her to join a Tigé photoshoot in Florida. Not long after, she officially became part of Team Tigé.

What stood out to Emily was more than the boats themselves.

“I loved Tigé not only for their boats but also for their family feel within the business itself. They are true to their word, very supportive, and make amazing boats.”

That sense of connection has kept Emily with Tigé for more than a decade. As someone who values long-lasting friendships and relationships, she has watched the company and its boats evolve while building relationships that have remained constant through some of the biggest milestones in her own life.

Many of the people who welcomed her to the team in 2014 are still there today. They have supported her through marriage, motherhood, and the changing seasons of her competitive career.

“I am very thankful for their support through the seasons of my life.”

Throughout her career, Emily has collected memorable accomplishments, including winning the semi-pro division at the World Championships and advancing to the professional level. She has earned multiple professional podium finishes, traveled to Hong Kong for coaching, and represented Tigé at an event in Japan. One of her most meaningful moments came at the Canadian Nationals, where she stood on the pro women's surf podium with her son at just 10 months old.

For Emily, though, the experience has always been about more than competition. Traveling to events, meeting people from around the world, and sharing time on the water have become some of her favorite parts of the journey.

And when it comes to her favorite part of riding, she always looks for one thing: air.

“I love getting air, and it's one of the reasons I have always loved Tigé boats. They have such a great wave to launch off!”

Today, Emily rides behind a 2026 Tigé 22RZX, a model that fits her family's needs while delivering the performance she loves. Its comfortable seating, generous storage, and rear surf locker help make family days on the water easier, while the GO Surf System makes dialing in the wave simple.

The 22RZX gives her the space, comfort, and surf performance her family needs.

These days, Emily's time on the water looks a little different. Rather than focusing solely on her own rides, she is helping her children discover the sport that has shaped so much of her life.

She admits she gets considerably less surf time now, but the tradeoff comes with plenty of time riding together and taking swim breaks. Her kids are still building confidence surfing on their own, and she hopes theywill start venturing out without her on the board beside them.

For Emily, the priority is simple: make it fun.

That same philosophy carries into the advice she gives women and girls who are interested in trying wakesurfing.

“Always have fun and stay true to yourself. You will always have moments of frustration when learning something new, but don't give up! If you work hard, stay positive, and have a smile on your face, you can accomplish more than you imagine.”

From a teenager discovering lake life in Canada to a professional wakesurfer, longtime Team Tigé athlete, and mother sharing the sport with her kids, Emily's story reminds us that the best part of wakesurfing has never been just the ride. It is the people, the places, and the memories that stay with you long after you leave the water.
